The nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards, which will be presented on September 14 in California, were announced yesterday. The second season of the dystopian drama series “Severance” (Apple TV) received 27 nominations, the highest number this year.

Among drama series, “The White Lotus” (HBO) follows with 23 nominations and “The Last of Us” (HBO) with 16. In the limited series category, “The Penguin” (DC Studios and Warner Bros) leads with 24, followed by “Adolescence” (Netflix) with 13. In the comedy category, “The Studio” (Apple TV) earned 23, “Hacks” (HBO) 14, and “The Bear” (FX on Hulu) 13.

The highest number of Emmy wins for a single season in the history of the awards is held by the first season of “Shogun,” which won 18 awards last year.

Only episodes that aired between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025 were eligible for nomination across 118 award categories, which include programs, actors, writers, and directors by genre.

U.S. media have pointed to several high-profile snubs, including Nicholas Alexander Chavez from “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” the third season of “Squid Game,” and “Disclaimer,” the miniseries by Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón starring Cate Blanchett.

The highest number of Emmy wins for a single season in the history of the awards is held by the first season of “Shogun,” which won 18 awards last year, while the most awarded TV program overall is “Saturday Night Live,” with 95.
