Kimberly Guilfoyle has been officially confirmed as the next US ambassador to Greece following Senate approval of her appointment. After signing her commission and being sworn in, she is expected to arrive in Athens in mid-October.

Her posting had been delayed as Democrats, angered by the passage of what Trump hailed as the “big, beautiful tax bill,” refused to support confirmations, creating bottlenecks across a series of appointments.

Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor, served as an adviser and senior figure in Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Republicans responded by activating the so-called “nuclear option,” changing Senate rules to allow nominations to be approved in groups. “If the Senate had continued at the pace we saw through July, there would still be hundreds of empty offices on the last day of President Trump’s term in 2029,” said Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Thursday.

Shortly after the Senate vote, Guilfoyle posted on X: “I am deeply grateful to President Trump and to the United States Senate for the trust they have placed in me. It is the honor of my life to serve as the first woman United States Ambassador to Greece.” She also shared a series of Instagram stories with the caption “my honor,” marking the historic moment in her career.
