With the Audience Award (Audience Award: World Cinema Dramatic), at the international Sundance festival, the film “Krata Me” (Hold Onto Me) by the Cypriot screenwriter and director Myrsini Aristeidou was honoured. The award was presented by United Airlines, in the framework of one of the most important independent cinema festivals worldwide.

“Krata Me” is Aristeidou’s feature-length debut, who has already been distinguished internationally with the award-winning short films “Semeli” (2015) and “Aria” (2017), which were screened at festivals such as Venice, Toronto, Tribeca and Berlin.

The film follows 11-year-old Iris, who spends her summer together with her friend Danae. When she discovers that her estranged father, Aris, has returned for her grandfather’s funeral, she decides to look for him.

The film was shot entirely in Cyprus and is a co-production of Cyprus, Greece and Denmark.

The role of Iris has been taken on by 11-year-old Maria Petrova, of Cypriot-Bulgarian origin, who makes her first film appearance. Also starring is the acclaimed Greek actor, director and playwright Christos Passalis (known from the films “Dogtooth”, “The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea”, and co-director of the film “The City and the City”).

The director is a fellow of the Cannes Cinéfondation Residence and has been honoured with the Emerging Filmmaker Award by the Sam Spiegel Film Lab.
