The international support mission to Cuba, named “Nuestra America Convoy,” has already delivered approximately 20 tons of humanitarian aid, which reached the island both by sea and by air.
Specifically, 14 tons were transported by a ship that departed from the port of Progreso in Mexico and docked in Havana, while another 6 tons had previously arrived via air shipments. The cargo includes food, medicine, solar panels, and bicycles, which were handed over to the Cuban authorities. Additional ships from the same initiative are expected to arrive in the coming days.
The shortage of fuel and goods in Cuba has disrupted sectors such as healthcare, transportation, and electricity production.
Although more aid is expected, this particular mission is largely symbolic, given the scale of the economic crisis facing the country. The initiative aims to bypass U.S. sanctions, which significantly restrict the shipment of fuel and other essential goods to Cuba. The prolonged shortages have severely disrupted critical sectors such as transportation, healthcare, and power generation, further worsening the already difficult daily life of citizens.
Around 300 organizations from more than 30 countries are participating in the initiative, including Greece, which contributed 200 kilograms of medicine and €15,000. Members of the initiative, such as former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, were received by the Cuban president.
