Workers, unions, bodies and organisations will honour tomorrow (01.05) with mobilisations Labour Day across the country, while 24-hour strikes will be in force.
Workers in Metro, Electric Railway and Tram decided on a 24-hour strike from Friday morning until the end of service, the same applies to the country’s railway network and suburban railway. Buses and trolleybuses will operate between 9:00–21:00.
Workers in public transport claim, among other things:
• public, safe, modern, reliable urban transport that responds to the needs of workers and the passenger public
• substantial increases in wages, secured through Collective Labour Agreements (CLAs)
All ships across the country will also remain docked for the entire 24 hours, due to the strike of the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation.
As for the mobilisations, from 11 in the morning GSEE and the Athens Labour Center will be at Klafthmonos Square, ADEDY at Korai and at Syntagma PAME.
“This year’s May Day finds workers faced with high prices, with the housing crisis, with the rapid deterioration of their labour relations. It finds society unprotected, as basic public goods are being sold off, as health and education are being turned into a good for a few,” GSEE states in its announcement.
