At least 11 people were killed in Kyiv in a new major Russian missile and drone attack in the early hours of Monday, the second to hit the Ukrainian capital within a week. According to the head of the city’s military administration, Timur Tkachenko, 46 people were injured, including five children, while emergency services announced three more deaths in the wider Kyiv region.

Rescue operations are continuing at more than 20 sites, while Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Russian ballistic missiles struck buildings in various parts of the city, causing fires in residential complexes. Warehouses and a car repair shop were also damaged, while three large apartment blocks have partially collapsed, with rescuers searching for people trapped in the rubble.

At the NATO summit, which will take place tomorrow and the day after in Ankara, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to hold talks with Donald Trump.

The attack comes just days after Thursday’s Russian barrage, which killed at least 30 people. Ukraine accuses Moscow of deliberately targeting residential areas, while Russia claims it is striking military and energy infrastructure in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on energy facilities on Russian territory. Meanwhile, in the occupied city of Sevastopol in Crimea, a temporary power outage occurred following new Ukrainian attacks.

Ahead of the NATO summit in Turkey on April 7 and 8, where Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet Donald Trump, the Ukrainian president called on allies to speed up the delivery of air-defense missiles. He has also asked the United States for licenses to produce Patriot missiles, warning that every delay costs human lives.
