The abandoned building of the former Badminton Theater in Goudi Park was completely destroyed by the fire that broke out last night and has since been brought fully under control. The fire did not spread to the surrounding outdoor areas, and no injuries or trapped individuals were reported.
The Fire Service was mobilized shortly after 8:00 p.m. At 8:20 p.m., the “112” emergency alert system was activated, advising residents in nearby areas to remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed, as dense smoke, combined with strong winds, was moving toward residential areas.
During the operation, there was initially concern that people might be inside the building. However, searches conducted by firefighters found no one trapped or injured. The fire was brought under partial control shortly after 1:00 a.m. and was subsequently extinguished. Small firefighting teams remained at the scene to carry out cleanup operations and prevent possible flare-ups.
The building, which is an Olympic property, has remained unused for approximately 10 years.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. A team from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes was dispatched to the scene and has undertaken the investigation into the circumstances under which the fire broke out.
The building, which is an Olympic property, has remained unused for approximately 10 years. According to images from the scene, it had already suffered significant deterioration, with broken doors and windows allowing relatively easy access to the interior.
