After several days of surveillance, the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YCAN) carried out a coordinated operation in Strovolos yesterday shortly before noon, raiding two storage areas at a residence, according to a Philenews report.
A total of 233.5 kg of narcotics was found—an amount initially estimated at around 100 kg, but which, after counting was completed late last night, proved to be much larger. Specifically, officers seized 167 kg of cannabis, 4.5 kg of cannabis resin, and 62 kg of cocaine, as well as 381 vaping devices (vapes) containing THC.
Investigations are continuing, including the review of CCTV footage, to determine whether other individuals may also be involved.
At the same time, items suggesting organized criminal activity were also found at the premises: 11,640 firecrackers, three pistols/revolvers (one of them a replica), two improvised explosive devices, more than 30 rounds of ammunition, and €12,765 in cash.
Two Greek Cypriot men, aged 34 and 26, were arrested in connection with the case and are believed to have played a supporting role. They are expected to be brought today before the Nicosia District Court, while investigations continue, including the examination of CCTV footage, to establish any possible involvement of additional persons.
