“One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, won the most awards (6) at last night’s 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, as well as Best Casting, a category that was introduced for the first time this year. Anderson won his first Oscar after previous nominations for films such as Boogie Nights (1997), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Phantom Thread (2017).
Second in the number of awards was “Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler, with four awards (from a record 16 nominations), including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan and Best Cinematography. Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman and the first Black cinematographer to win an Oscar in that category.

“Frankenstein,” directed by Guillermo del Toro, followed with three awards, along with “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. “Hamnet,” directed by Chloé Zhao, won Best Actress for Jessie Buckley (the first Irish actress to win the award), while “Sentimental Value,” directed by Joachim Trier, won Best International Feature Film, beating “The Secret Agent,” “It Was Just an Accident,” and “The Voice of Hind Rajab.”
Among the films that left the ceremony without awards were “Bugonia” by Yorgos Lanthimos (0 out of 4 nominations) and “Marty Supreme” by Josh Safdie (0 out of 9 nominations).
