The parents’ and guardians’ association of the 23rd Junior High School of Athens also denounced, in a formal statement, the “violent” arrest of a 13-year-old student on November 5, while the school was under occupation.
The association further stated that the student was interrogated without the presence of his parents, lawyer, or psychologist, and that the police “fabricated” charges of “property damage.”
“The child was threatened to ‘name his accomplices,’ forced to sign ‘a paper he didn’t read,’ and had his phone forcibly opened so that messages and calls could be monitored in order to build a case for ‘property damage,’” the statement reads.
The rally at Propylaea called for filling teacher vacancies, improving school infrastructure, and halting the merging of school classes.
It adds that, under pressure from both the student’s teachers and classmates, “the police’s attempt to send the child to court on Thursday morning under the immediate trial procedure was prevented.”
According to EL.AS., the 13-year-old was arrested for causing damage, and his mother was informed immediately. He was released at dawn on verbal orders from the prosecutor. The police report states that a group of individuals was seen damaging a school door, and the arrested minor was among them. Officers also confiscated a crowbar, the statement adds.
