Garifallia, 41, passed away yesterday in the ICU of KAT hospital, where she had been in critical condition following an assault by her 49-year-old partner in Patras, just hours after a similar femicide occurred in Agrinio.
On the early morning of Monday, November 4, her partner waited for her outside a hotel, attacked her by punching her face, throwing her to the ground, and kicking her head, according to local media and the Greek Police.
This is the second femicide within 48 hours and the 12th in the year 2024.
The woman was initially hospitalized at “Agios Andreas” hospital with severe cranial injuries and an occipital bone fracture, but later she needed to be transferred to Athens.
The 49-year-old, who initially claimed he found her injured on the street, called the emergency services, after which the police were notified. He was then arrested on charges of causing serious bodily harm and remains in pre-trial detention based on a unanimous decision by the judge and prosecutor. Following Garifallia’s death, it is expected that his charges will be upgraded to manslaughter.
Her family announced that they have donated Garifallia’s organs so that “her love and light can continue to live on through others.”
