Significant improvements have recently been recorded in the travel advisories of European countries regarding Cyprus, a development attributed, according to reports, to coordinated diplomatic efforts by Nicosia. From March 4, 2026, until today, nine countries have made positive revisions to their recommendations: Bulgaria, France, Denmark, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, and Sweden.

This development is considered particularly important, as it reflects more clearly the actual security situation in Cyprus, while also confirming that the government’s and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ diplomatic efforts have produced tangible results. The new wording is seen as more balanced, accurate, and proportionate, distinguishing the Republic of Cyprus from broader regional developments.

Through continuous contact and well-documented briefings to foreign governments, a more objective representation of the situation in the country was pursued and achieved.

For example, France withdrew its recommendation to avoid travel to the British Sovereign Base Areas in Akrotiri and Dhekelia, while Sweden removed references to problems in air traffic at Larnaca and Paphos airports. The Netherlands replaced wording referring to “significant security risks” with a reference to “specific risks,” reducing the impression of generalized insecurity.

Poland now states that the overall situation in Cyprus is stable and classifies the Republic of Cyprus at Level 1, corresponding to a recommendation for normal caution. Meanwhile, Bulgaria lowered its travel advisory from Level 3 to Level 2, simply calling for increased caution and awareness.

According to the same sources, Nicosia did not remain inactive in the face of wording that did not reflect reality. Through sustained engagement and evidence-based communication with foreign governments, a more objective portrayal of the situation in the country was sought and achieved.
