Prosecutor Vasiliki Dimopoulou has called for the conviction of the defendant for the femicide of Kyriaki Griva, which took place in April 2024 outside the Agioi Anargyroi police station, describing the crime as “premeditated.”
She emphasized that no evidence was found to support the defendant’s claim of suffering from a serious mental illness that would diminish his criminal responsibility. On the contrary, she argued, his actions were carried out methodically, with planning and composure.
“According to the defendant’s medical record, his hospitalizations were due to substance use, not psychiatric illness. His claims of mental illness are refuted by the psychiatric evaluation conducted by Mr. Papageorgiou, who was appointed by the investigating magistrate,” the prosecutor noted.
Before she was murdered, Kyriaki Griva had requested a police escort to return home but was told, “a patrol car is not a taxi.”
The psychiatric report stated that “the amount of alcohol consumed does not justify intoxication, nor reduced awareness or impaired consciousness.”
Dimopoulou also noted that Griva’s relationship with the defendant ended in 2024 due to his abusive behavior toward her, and she referenced his violent outbursts as described by Griva’s family.
The prosecutor requested his conviction for intentional homicide, which carries a life sentence, and for illegal possession and use of a weapon (a misdemeanor). She recommended acquittal on the charge of illegal drug use.
