“The US–Iran ceasefire remains fragile, as yesterday Israel bombed over 100 locations in Lebanon within 10 minutes, killing at least 254 people and injuring at least 1,000.

The scale of yesterday’s attacks was condemned as ‘horrific’ by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk. ‘The scale of the killing and destruction in Lebanon today is nothing short of horrific. Such carnage, within hours of agreeing to a ceasefire with Iran, defies belief. It places enormous pressure on a fragile peace, which is so desperately needed by civilians,’ he said.

Iran described the strikes as a ‘serious violation’ of the ceasefire and once again closed the Strait of Hormuz until the United States halts its ‘aggressive actions’. The US and Israel have claimed since yesterday that the agreement did not include a ceasefire in Lebanon, while D. Trump stated that US troops will remain in the region until the ‘real’ agreement is fully implemented. Pakistan, which acted as a mediator in the ceasefire, had stated that the agreement does include a ceasefire with Lebanon.

Pakistan, which acted as a mediator in the ceasefire, had stated that the agreement does include a ceasefire with Lebanon.

The two sides present conflicting accounts regarding the basis of the negotiations, which—unless something changes—are set to officially begin on Friday in Islamabad. Trump had said he was reviewing Iran’s 10-point plan, which includes terms that have long been red lines for the US; however, he later stated that he meant a ‘different plan’, described the Iranian proposal as ‘not serious’, and said he is ultimately working on a new 15-point plan.

On the other hand, Iran presented two different versions of its 10-point plan, with one—written in Farsi—reportedly including the ‘acceptance of uranium enrichment’ for Iran’s nuclear program.
