A record number of candidacies were submitted today for the Parliamentary Elections of May 24, 2026, marking the beginning of the final stretch toward the polls. In total, a record 753 candidacies and 19 party lists were submitted.
In Nicosia, 261 candidacies were filed from 18 party lists and 4 independent candidates, with women accounting for 31% of all candidates. In Limassol, 167 candidacies were submitted, of which 164 belong to 17 party lists, while three concern individual independent candidates.
In Larnaca, based on the allocation of the total number of candidacies by district, 76 candidacies were submitted, with women representing 34% of the total. In Paphos, 67 candidacies were filed from 16 party lists and 2 independent candidates, with female representation reaching 25.4%.
Objections to candidacies may be submitted within 24 hours, until 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, before the ballots are finalized.
Particular interest surrounds the strong participation of both traditional political parties and newer political movements, such as ALMA, Direct Democracy, Volt Europa, DEK, Agronomist, and Sikou Pano.
At the same time, nominations were also submitted for representatives of the Religious Groups of the Maronites, Armenians, and Latins. According to the electoral process, if no more than one candidacy is submitted for each Religious Group, the Returning Officer will proceed with the election of a representative without a vote.
