A 48-year-old man shot and killed a woman in Nea Smyrni yesterday, shooting her twice before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.
The man had previously been in a relationship with the woman and had reportedly waited for her outside the home of her daughter, whom she had gone to visit.
According to available information, the 48-year-old had parked his car nearby and waited for her at the entrance of the apartment building. When she arrived, he pointed the gun at her and forced her to kneel before fatally shooting her.
Based on known cases, this is the ninth femicide recorded in 2026. The previous case was the killing of Stavroula Leventaki in Chania in June.
Police are also investigating whether recent threats reportedly made against the 45-year-old woman came from him. In 2024, she had reported him to police for taking her motorcycle and failing to return it.
Reports in the Albanian press also state that his former wife had reported him for stalking in 2016, when he was living in Tirana. According to the reports, he closely monitored her, repeatedly sent her threatening messages and called her continuously.
