Flotilla,
Activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international solidarity fleet transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza, allege that their vessels came under attack, posting videos on social media that appear to show explosions.
One video released by the group showed what looked like a flare, followed by a loud blast. Another clip featured a passenger saying that at least four ships had been targeted by drones and that the attack was still underway.
The activists also reported that drones were flying overhead and that their communications were being jammed.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is an international activist initiative aiming to break Israel’s blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Greek initiative “March to Gaza”, which is part of the flotilla, stated that the incident took place near Greece, specifically southwest of Gavdos.
The group suggested in social media posts that Israel may be behind the attacks. “We believe these drones are intended to intimidate, potentially gathering intelligence for Israel”, they wrote, noting that the aircraft appeared roughly every 10 minutes.
Israel, for its part, has accused the flotilla of ties to Hamas and vowed to “take necessary measures to prevent it from entering the conflict zone”.
