Her re-election was secured with the support of DISY and Direct Democracy in the first round and, in the second round, with the backing of DIKO.

A decisive role in the process was played by the stance of Direct Democracy, which supported Demetriou’s candidacy from the first round. Fidias Panayiotou stated that discussions had taken place with all parties before the vote and noted that an agreement had been reached with DISY to cooperate on specific issues, including housing policy and social affairs.

In the first round, Demetriou received 21 votes and AKEL Secretary General Stefanos Stefanou received 19, with both advancing to the second round. The candidates of DIKO and ELAM each received eight votes and were eliminated.

Demetriou stressed the importance of respecting differing opinions, adhering to parliamentary procedures, and strengthening the credibility of the House.

In the second round, Demetriou was elected with 29 votes. She was supported by DISY’s 17 MPs, DIKO’s 8 MPs, and Direct Democracy’s 4 MPs. Stefanou received 19 votes with the support of AKEL and Alma, while ELAM abstained.

Following her election, Annita Demetriou thanked lawmakers for their confidence and said she would perform her duties in accordance with the Constitution, the laws, and the rules of Parliament.
