A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death during a fight involving eight people in Chalkida in the early hours, reportedly over football fan rivalries between Olympiacos and AEK supporters. Two other people were also injured.
According to reports, the participants were split into two groups of four who had arranged to meet for a confrontation. Six have been arrested—three AEK fans and three Olympiacos fans—while police are still searching for another Olympiacos supporter.
The victim was an AEK fan. Of the two injured men, one supports Olympiacos and the other AEK; all were wounded by knives. The victim’s friends took him to the local hospital before fleeing the scene.
According to News247, police have concluded that the incident stemmed from fan rivalries, though the six detainees are reportedly refusing to cooperate with investigators.
One of the arrested Olympiacos supporters had previously been involved in the clashes that resulted in the death of police officer G. Lyggeridis. His name had also appeared in the case file for that incident, where he allegedly played a peripheral role.
A second violent episode followed near Eleftherias Square in Chalkida, where a 20-year-old man was found bleeding. Authorities are investigating whether the two incidents are connected. The man was taken to hospital, and his condition is not life-threatening.
