Yesterday, at the Maximus Mansion, a meeting discussed the three main measures to limit social media use by children under 15 [1], [2], [3].
The first measure involves the introduction of parco.gov.gr, where parents can find detailed guidelines for using the parental controls available on most mobile devices.
The second measure concerns the launch of the Kids Wallet app, which will, among other things, verify users’ ages. The third measure focuses on EU-level initiatives to coordinate actions to pressure platforms to ban harmful content for minors under 15.
An event is scheduled for December 30, where the full national plan to address minors’ addiction to social media will be unveiled.
EU-level initiatives are necessary because a national government cannot impose rules on international platforms based in foreign countries.
According to “Kathimerini,” regarding the first measure, the website parco.gov.gr, parents will have access to videos explaining how to activate 1) mobile usage time limits, 2) blocking inappropriate content, 3) reporting the use of inappropriate apps, 4) blocking access to apps, 5) setting age restrictions, which, however, have gaps in most apps, and 6) tracking the device’s location.
