Tourism in Greece remained resilient during the January–April 2026 period, despite concerns over the war in Iran and the Middle East.
Specifically, the average spending of foreign tourists reached €516.5, recording an 8.6% increase, travel receipts rose by 36.9%, and traffic increased by 27.1%.
Germans accounted for the largest number of visitors (534,500), but receipts from them fell by 10.15%, while British visitors increased by 51%, also bringing a 106.9% rise in receipts.
The tourism report is by the Bank of Greece, which also refers to expectations for the summer and for 2026 as a whole.
The number of American tourists reached 327,800, recording a 3.4% decrease compared with 2025, while travel receipts were also slightly lower, down 0.8%. The United States, however, remains one of the largest markets for Greek tourism, with total revenue of €327.3 million.
Travel traffic from Italy recorded a strong increase of 21.6%, with a total of 241,200 visitors to Greece in the first four months of 2026. Italian tourists brought in revenue that was 57.5% higher, reaching €159 million.
Receipts from the French market were also up by 12.6%, reaching €123.8 million. A total of 110,500 tourists came from France, a figure 6.3% higher than in 2025.
