On Saturday at Livadia train station, a woman traveling with her three children on a Hellenic Train became trapped in the doors as they closed while she was disembarking. She was dragged several meters along the platform, suffering minor injuries. At the time, one of her children had already stepped onto the platform, another was in her arms, and the third remained inside the train.

Hellenic Train, owned by the Italian company Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, is a private company that operates passenger and freight services on the Greek railway network.

The train continued its journey toward Thessaloniki but was eventually forced to stop at the next station following intervention by the public prosecutor. The driver and supervisor were arrested as part of the investigation into the incident.

In a statement issued yesterday, Hellenic Train “takes full responsibility” and apologizes for the incident. The company acknowledged, “Our staff failed to follow the established protocols for the safe boarding and disembarking of passengers, as well as the company’s code of conduct,” and stressed that “strict penalties will be imposed on those involved to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
