Greek shipping companies secretly carried out at least 57 transfers of approximately 47 million barrels of oil from Turkey to Israel, according to an investigation by No Harbour for Genocide reported by Middle East Eye. These shipments occurred between May 2024 and December 2025, during the genocide in Gaza and in direct violation of Turkey’s trade embargo on Israel.
The main companies involved, according to the report, are Kyklades Maritime Corporation and Thenamaris Ships Management, owned by the Alafouzos and Martinos shipping families, respectively. The oil originates from the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline and, once in Israel, is refined into fuel for warplanes and tanks.
The ships reportedly declared false destinations (such as Egypt) and traveled to Israeli ports with their tracking systems turned off. Satellite images reviewed by Middle East Eye confirm that the vessels were anchored in Israel while their tracking systems were disabled.
In 2025, they also carried out 13+ shipments of military equipment (e.g. weapon components) to Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer.
Additionally, between October 2023 and February 2026, Greek shipping companies carried out at least eight coal shipments (751,000 tonnes) from South Africa to Israel. According to the investigation, this coal is primarily used for electricity generation in Israel.
Finally, in 2025 alone, at least 13 shipments of military material (such as weapon components and ammunition) were delivered, with Elbit Systems identified as the final recipient.
“This report shows that Israel’s war is not sustained in isolation, but through an international network of companies, ports, and governments that continue to supply fuel and weapons, even as atrocities are broadcast worldwide,” said Layla Hazaineh of Progressive International.
