U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted a “bridge proposal” to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
Hamas officials have not yet announced their response but have described the proposal as “pro-Israel.” Negotiations will continue in Egypt, which Blinken described as “perhaps the best and last” chance to secure hostage release and progress toward a more peaceful future.
The IDF announced that it has recovered the bodies of 6 hostages, while Israeli bombings have killed at least 25 Palestinians since Sunday.
According to an Axios report citing two senior Israeli government officials, Netanyahu approved the U.S. proposal, which incorporated several of his updated demands, knowing that Hamas would reject it.
The same source also reported that Netanyahu’s negotiating team told him a deal might be possible with more flexibility from their current positions. Netanyahu rejected this suggestion and reprimanded them for “compromise.”
Meanwhile, in Khan Younis, the Israeli army recovered the bodies of 6 Israeli hostages, aged 35-80, with Israeli authorities aware they were dead. Since Sunday, the Israeli military has killed at least 25 Palestinians, mostly in central Gaza. The total number of Palestinian deaths has surpassed 40,000, and 106 hostages remain in Gaza, either alive or dead.
