“This is not a simple homicide; it falls within the realm of organized crime. Karaivaz was a police reporter. He had long had information on how organized crime and various criminal organizations operate. From his recent articles, it appears he intended to make revelations, and that might be the motive for the murder, as there is no other apparent reason,” the prosecutor said.

According to the prosecutor’s recommendation, the person who shot the journalist multiple times was the younger defendant, aged 41, while his older brother, who is eight years his senior, served as his direct accomplice.
On Friday, the two defendants denied any involvement. They are being tried as the direct perpetrators of the murder (the instigators remain unidentified) and face charges of premeditated murder and illegal possession of firearms. However, they are not facing charges for criminal organization. The prosecutor noted in her statement that the criminal organization charge was not applied because it is difficult to prove.
