French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis signed 9 agreements on Saturday during their meeting in Athens, with the most important being the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
As the Greek prime minister stated, the agreement makes Greece “safer, strengthens its geopolitical position and creates new opportunities and prospects for synergies, from AI to cybersecurity.”
This agreement will be automatically renewed every 5 years unless one of the two sides denounces it.
Other agreements they signed are for the renewal of the strategic partnership for cooperation in defence and security between Greece and France, for the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation on issues of vocational education, training and lifelong learning, for strengthening cooperation in the fields of Higher Education and scientific research between the Hellenic Republic and the French Republic 2026-2030, and for the establishment of cooperation in the field of nuclear technology.
At the same time, in a discussion the two leaders had, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated positively that Europe should produce cheap nuclear energy.
“In a critical geopolitical juncture, we confirmed the strategic choice we made in 2021 to strengthen the relationship between Greece and France, turning it into a strong, multi-level alliance,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated yesterday in his review, making a first assessment of the visit of Emmanuel Macron.
