The composition of the parliamentary committees of Cyprus’ new House of Representatives has been finalized, following a meeting of the Selection Committee and its approval by the plenary.
DISY will chair the Foreign Affairs, Institutions, Energy/Commerce, Health, and Legal Affairs committees; AKEL will chair the Interior, Agriculture, Labour, Refugees, and Human Rights committees; DIKO will chair the Audit, Finance, and Education committees; and ELAM will chair the Defence, Environment, and Transport committees.
The composition of the parliamentary committees of Cyprus’ new House of Representatives has been finalized, following a meeting of the Selection Committee and its approval by the plenary. The decisions concern both the committee chairmanships and the members who will staff them during the new parliamentary term.
At the same time, the members of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Ethics of Members of the House of Representatives were also elected.
During the plenary session, the procedure followed for forming the committees was also discussed. AKEL MP Giorgos Loukaides said his party was voting against the committee chairs and deputy chairs coming from ELAM.
For DIKO, party president Nikolas Papadopoulos invoked Article 73(3) of the Constitution, arguing that responsibility for forming the committees belongs to the Selection Committee. MPs from other parties called for cooperation so that the work of Parliament can proceed smoothly.
Based on the decisions taken, DISY will chair the Foreign Affairs, Institutions, Energy/Commerce, Health, and Legal Affairs committees. AKEL will chair the Interior, Agriculture, Labour, Refugees, and Human Rights committees. DIKO will chair the Audit, Finance, and Education committees, while ELAM will chair the Defence, Environment, and Transport committees.
At the same time, the members of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Ethics of Members of the House of Representatives were also elected.
