Athina Linou announced that she will not give up her SYRIZA-PS seat [1], [2] after being expelled from the party’s Parliamentary Group yesterday, following weeks of conflict with Pavlos Polakis.

Linou said her expulsion was “clearly a choice by Mr. Kasselakis between me and Mr. Pavlos Polakis” and accused SYRIZA president Stefanos Kasselakis of steering the party in a destructive direction.

“Unfortunately, I gave Mr. Kasselakis enough time to decide what kind of party he wanted to lead, and he has chosen to turn it into a ‘Polakis’ party,” the MP said.

Pavlos Polakis has alleged that the “Prolepsis” Institute, formerly chaired by Athina Linou, received substantial funding through direct assignments for school meals over several years, amounting to millions.

During an interview on the “Live News” show on Mega, Stefanos Kasselakis said he was not satisfied with Athina Linou’s explanations regarding the assignments she received.

“I don’t need to go into details; I’m not a prosecutor. However, I believe there are issues that should have been investigated before her inclusion on the party list, and this is a lesson for all of SYRIZA moving forward,” said Kasselakis.

In a statement, SYRIZA-PS said: “Ms. Linou avoided providing the clarifications and documents requested of her, which she continues to do with her statement today. It is well-known that not self-incriminating is a fundamental right […] When she was sworn in as a member of parliament, she signed the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary group’s regulations, which explicitly state that the seat belongs to the party, not the individual.”
