Tempi: Stationmaster released from prison with restrictions

The Larissa stationmaster, on duty during the Tempi disaster on February 28, 2023, has been released from custody under restrictive conditions.

According to Eleftheria newspaper, the investigating judge handling the case approved the request to replace pretrial detention with these restrictions.

The conditions imposed include house arrest and a ban on leaving the country. His 18-month detention period was scheduled to end on September 1.

The trial for the Tempi disaster, where 57 people were killed, is not expected to begin before January 2025

According to information reported by Open, the decision to release the stationmaster early was based on the assessment that there was no risk of reoffending. Additionally, no financial bail was set, as the prosecutor determined that he would not be able to afford such a cost.

Judicial sources cited by Open also suggest that the trial for the Tempi case will face additional delays and is expected to be postponed until early 2025.
