The Ministry of Education is introducing new rules for school trips, but has not addressed teachers’ demand for financial compensation for those taking part.

“The work they provide is away from their usual workplace and involves overtime, as they are on duty around the clock, including on public holidays or weekends. In the interest of equal treatment, they should receive the compensation that is rightly provided to workers in other sectors,” the Federation of Secondary School Teachers (OLME) said.

The new rules also include stricter provisions for photographing or filming other students without their consent. In such cases, the device will be switched off, kept by teachers and returned to the student’s parent or guardian after the trip.

If a student takes photos without consent, the device will be kept by teachers and returned to their parent or guardian after the trip.

Another change sets a minimum of six school trips per class each year in primary education. The number of accompanying teachers can also be increased when necessary, depending on the number of students or the conditions of the trip, to ensure safe travel and supervision.

In special education schools, the minimum participation rate required for a trip to take place will be reduced from 70% to 50%. The 70% threshold was considered too high and made it harder for students to participate. In some cases, trips did not take place even when most students in a class had signed up.
