The number of points with smart lockers (lockers) skyrocketed from 850 at the end of 2022, mainly in Athens and Thessaloniki, to 5,500+ nationwide in 2026, while the total number of available lockers reaches 330,000, reports a report of “Kathimerini.”
In the most densely populated areas of Athens, the lockers occupy permanent spaces, occupying entire stores that remain open 24/7, while the courier market is divided among 3 companies (ACS, Skroutz and Box Now), which handle approximately 130 million shipments annually.
The first, pilot program of the system of smart lockers for parcel pickup appeared in Germany in 2001.
ACS has over 1,250 points throughout Greece, while the goal is the doubling of the automatic lockers so that they approach 3,000 installed units by the end of 2026. At this moment approximately 15% of orders are delivered through these solutions, compared to only 5% in 2024.
Skroutz was among the first companies that invested in smart lockers, while the Skroutz Point have expanded to more than 2,000 areas throughout the country and have over 69,000 lockers. In 2025, almost 39% of the orders were received through these lockers.
Box Now operates exclusively in this segment and has 200,000 lockers installed in 2,300 points nationwide, while the total competition does not exceed 120,000–135,000 lockers. The goal for 2026 is 300,000 lockers in 2,800 points nationwide.
