The WWF sailing vessel Blue Panda will pass through 6 Mediterranean countries (France, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Albania, Croatia) to conduct research and educate the public about marine environmental protection.

In Greece, it will explore the waters of the Hellenic Trench, an area spanning from the Ionian Islands to southern Crete and Rhodes, from July 15th to July 29th. The Hellenic Trench includes the Mediterranean’s deepest point (the Oinousses Trench, 5,121 meters deep).

The vessel will dock at the central port of Zakynthos from July 31st to August 1st, where open public activities will take place.

This year, the crew of the Blue Panda includes members from the scientific teams of both WWF and the Tethys Research Institute, renowned for their expertise in cetacean studies, focusing primarily on the Mediterranean and globally.

The sailing vessel will navigate through the northern and central regions of the Mediterranean, researching endangered species found in these waters, such as the sperm whale, fin whale, and dolphin. Scientific methods, including visual observation and satellite tagging, will be employed to collect data on the presence, behavior, and movements of these species
