A report by the General State Chemical Laboratory shows that there was a very large leakage of liquefied petroleum gas (propane, isobutane, butane) at the Violanta factory in Trikala, where the accident occurred in January with 5 dead female workers.
Findings of a similar nature were identified also in other fields, while despite the signs of oxidation and rust on the external surface of the pipe, the analysts emphasize in the report that the wear is exclusively superficial and has not penetrated the material.
The owner of Violanta remains in pre-trial detention, while its production continues only at the company’s factory in Larissa.
Thus, the investigations for the identification of the exact point of the leakage continue, as the ground around the pipeline was found acidic and fully saturated with LPG, as the Newspaper of the Editors reports.
Traces of flammable material were also found even in a soil sample 100 meters from the unit, proving that the LPG had spread over a large radius, while it was also detected in pits around the basement, in the yard, but also in holes of the concrete wall in the basement.
In the meantime, the owner of Violanta remains in pre-trial detention, while its production continues only at the company’s factory in Larissa.
