Ninety-three Palestinians were killed yesterday by IDF gunfire as they waited in line for food on Sunday, with the death toll among the highest in Israeli attacks on people waiting for humanitarian aid.
The Gaza Health Ministry said many were killed by Israeli fire while waiting for UN aid trucks entering from the northern Zikim crossing with Israel.
Nine others were killed by gunfire near an aid point near Rafah in the south, where dozens of people died just 24 hours earlier, while four were killed near another aid point in Khan Younis.
At least 8 Palestinians were killed today when Israeli tanks stormed the town of Deir al-Balah, where Israel believes hostages are being held.
Meanwhile, Israel has issued new evacuation orders for areas where many displaced persons remain.
The UN says the convoy of 25 trucks carrying food aid “encountered massive crowds of hungry civilians who came under fire” near Gaza City, while Israel disputes the death toll and says it was warning fire.
Before reports of the latest Israeli shooting emerged, Pope Leon XIV called for “an immediate end to the barbarity of war and a peaceful resolution of the conflict” at the end of a prayer at his summer residence near Rome.
