A 20-year-old man was arrested and confessed to the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old man in Agios Dimitrios, at Asyrmaton Square.

“Romantic rivalry” appears to have been the motive of the perpetrator, as they had exchanged messages, since the first was in a relationship with the former partner of the second, and they had even arranged to meet in order to settle it.

The Hellenic Police had estimated from the beginning that the 20-year-old had disputes with the victim and the motive of robbery had been ruled out, as the victim’s personal belongings were not missing from the body (mobile phone, wallet, a cross he was wearing), nor was any money missing, according to Kathimerini.

The alleged perpetrator said in his confession that it was “a bad moment,” while the 18-year-old who was with him said he did not manage to stop him.

An 18-year-old man was also arrested for aiding, as he was together with the alleged perpetrator at the time of the murder, while their partners, whom they met afterwards, were also arrested. The 18-year-old told the authorities that he did not manage to stop his 27-year-old friend.

According to the death certificate of the 27-year-old, the young man, son of a brigadier of the Hellenic Police, bore a “wound to the left hemithorax caused by a piercing and cutting instrument.” Toxicology tests are also pending.

The murder weapon, the knife, was located by Hellenic Police officers after being indicated by the 20-year-old himself during his confession. He is also said to have attributed the killing to “a bad moment.”
